Congress' topic is Hungary's culture
Plain Dealer, NOV 19 1978
The preservation of Hungarian culture in the United States will be discussed here during the 18th annual Congress of Hungarian-Americans next weekend.
Readings of prose and poetry and vocal and piano performances will highlight the event in the Cleveland Plaza. Four Hungarian organizations also will have annual meetings.
Organizers say historians, social scientists, authors, lecturers, engineers, physicians and officials of Hungarian societies will attend.
A ceremonial opening of the three-day congress will be in the hotel's Windsor Room at 7 p. m. Friday. Medals, awarded for outstanding achievements in literature, arts and sciences, will be presented during a grand ball and banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Members of the Hungarian Academy of Art and Sciences Abroad will present papers in their fields of study Sunday. Book, photography and art exhibits will be in the hotel's second floor lobby.
A special session will be devoted to the educational and human rights problems of the three million Hungarians in Transylvania, a territory annexed to Romania 60 years ago.
